My 1979 300TD wagon has wind noise at highway speeds coming from the driver and passenger side windows. If I move the window down slightly from the fully up position, it eases the noise somewhat. I suspect the window channel is the culprit, but I am not sure. The noise is sort of a whistle, and it only occurs at around 60-75 MPH. Anyone familiar with this problem, I would be most appreciative of your help. Thanks.

I have the same exact problem with the front passenger window on my 300E, at any speeds above 65 it will make a whistling noise that will drive you crazy. I just crack the window and it goes away.

I have a 1985 300CD that when bought (last summer) had very unpleasant whistling from passenger side window at speed. When I looked closely at window weatherstripping, I noticed that there were small gaps (1/16 to 1/8 inch) in it where sections were joined. I think from just being old and shrinking.

I used some silicone and carefully filled in the gaps. No big deal if you are careful. Can get the stuff in small tubes with narrow tips. I used clear buy if you can find black, would be better. Silicone is flexable and completely waterproof.

Virtually all whistling now gone! Small openings make big noises.

Wind noise on 123s
 

There are two paths for the wind to whistle through on a 123 door. The window seal and the door seal. Both can be replaced. The door seals are between $60-85 per door last I looked and the window seals should be less than that. My 123 isn't worth restoring and the heater makes up for the losses in the winter so I haven't bothered with it. If my 124 started to do it, I'd probably fix it. I silicon all of the seals every year with spray silicon on a q-tip and the seals all look brand new. The car is a 1989 with 205 k miles on the clock. If anybody replies with the "don't EVER use silicon on rubber" line, please tell me what they think you should use.

You were told never to use silicon on rubber weatherstripping? I have been told by many people to spray my weatherstripping and coolant hoses twice a year with silicon spray to keep them from drying out and I havent had any bad experiences yet.
