300e power seat stuck

the driver seat on the '87 300e is stuck in position for a person eight inches shorter than myself! the seat motor seems to work, but the whole thing is getting stuck at a certain point. the interior lights dim and the plastic peice (that runs from the seat track to the exhaust manifold in the backseat) buckles and bends at that point. i can't imagine that the plastic piece is holding up the works, i have a feeling that motor could crush fingers. so it must be off track or something? i suspect it is mechanical, since the seat does move up to that point. is there something obvious i'm not seeing here? this ever happen to anyone else?
this site has proven very helpful in the past; if anyone remembers the troubles i have reported, let it be known that a new airflow sensor, ovp relay, and ignition coil have cured all but the occaisional stall immediately after startup. once she's running everything is fine. still scratching my head on that one, but i need to fix this seat in short order!

it sounds

like you are on the right track.

keep looking around and you will find the prob. i am sure. you might have to unbolt the seat to get at it.
