Power Window Problem
 

I've searched in vane trying to find out how to fix the driver's power window. It is stuck half way up. I have a 1985 300TD Turbo Diesel Wagon.

Can someone just point me in the right direction where there's information on how to track down the problem. Thanks!

IF the motor runs but the window won't go all of the way UP then the window LIFTER is most likely the problem.

A couple of other thoughts. Check to see if the right rear works. If it doesn't it is possibly a fuse. Also the problem could be the console switch and specially if it is worn to a white circle insread of an image of a window. You might try working with that switch at different temperatures. If none of these work out I'd also go with bound regulator. The motors have a very low failure rate. I'm sure the parts stores sell alot of motors if you ask, but the reason is poor diagnostics and not failed motors. There is a sign at one of the parts suppliers here in the Bay Area. IF THE PART YOU BOUGHT DIDN"T FIX THE PROBLEM, YOU NOW HAVE A SPARE

When in doubt -- check the fuses!
 

It turned out the only problem with the window was the fuse! Unfortunately, my daughter (who drives the beast) got caught out in a horrible downpour when the window (driver's side) wouldn't go back up. She hastily pulled over and enlisted a friend to help her get the window up. This friend ripped off the door liner, disassembled the entire window mechanism, forcefully pulled the window up half way, and wired it up that way! When I got a look at it I didn't think I would ever get it working again. Also, never having taken apart the door liner, let alone disconnecting the window from the lifters and motor, I had no idea what I was doing - and, of course, was missing half the parts to put it back together! With the help of my wife, who can be quite mechanical at times, we spent all day undoing the mess these kids got this window in. It was locked up pretty good! :mad: Anyway, once we got the window put back on track and put in a couple new fuses, it worked beautifully. All the other windows are working too. Of course, without the help this website gives me, I wouldn't have had the confidence to tackle it. Now, if I could just get those darn vacuum door locks working!

Thanks for the update. As to the door locks, first check all the vacuum connections by the brake booster carefully. If you find nothing there, you can remove the passenger floor mat and check all the vacuum lines under the plastic cover with a miti-vac.
