Smoke When Cold Only? M116

Hi all,
My buddy's 1983 380SEL (w126, 124k miles) is a bit smokey on start-up. After warming up a bit (I'd say right about the time it gets into closed-loop...if I can remember my lamda tutorial  ) smoke goes away entirely, not a whisp. Runs just fine cold, idle doesn't stumble and starts w/o hesitation. Uses no oil, no oil in water/compression in cooling system.
Does this sound like an O2 sensor problem? Possibly a smog pump issue? Do they function together or off different temp sensors?
I remember having his dash apart not too long ago and there not being a bulb in the O2 sensor dummy light hole. O2 sensor looks quite new, though.
Any help?
Thanks!

In Kuwait they say that u need to drive on 160~180KM speed for an hour. I'm talking about the BLACK smoke not the white or mixed one.

Smoke is white/gray and more or less odorless...just smells & looks like exhaust, except a lot of it.

Searching for O2 sensor help sucks, as the searcg requires 3 character words  ...
Thanks!

Its also called Oxygen Sensor that you CAN search on....

incidently the motor is NOT a OM116 the OM prefix translates to oil motor and is used only on Diesels....

Right you are BHD, Thanks. Still haven't gotten the diesel out of my veins yet...First time in 10yrs I haven't owned at least 1...
& here I go to search oxygen...

Searched oxygen w/o much success. The car is not exhibiting any of the symptoms that everyone else blames on an O2 sensor. I put a bulb in the dash and the O2 sensor light is on. Light stays on after warm up and after smoke is gone. Obviously this has been a prob since before my friend bought the car & the light was removed to make the sale easier.
I did find a test for the sensor, so I'll run that.

Any info out there on what sensor make the O2 light come on in the dash?

Thanks!

Sounds like valve stem seals to me. What happens is the oil accumulated in the top end seeps down into the cylinders, say after an overnight sit, then burns off at start-up. Not to be confused with valve guides, these are a real PITA to replace, but it is a DIY job, about an 8/10 on the difficulty scale with the right tools....
