Emission Problem, What Does This Part Do?
89 260E.
Car failed emission test. Hydrocarbon too high both at idle and high speed. Am hunting for the egr, but I think this part is the only egr valve for this car. Anybody knows how to test this part. Thanks.

That's a vacuum restrictor and/or a check valve. The EGR should look like this

That picture link came from the Buy Parts link at the top of this page. I searched for a 1989 260E and thats what came up.
Thing is, my car is a 1971 250C so I don't have any more info than that and you may very well be right. Michael
