87 300E-how long to change valve seals

About how long would it take to change the valve guide seals? Thanks.

it took me 2-3 hrs, didn't rush as its hard on the back reaching across, mark your rocker towers before you remove

Hmm. I was told to only remove one tower at a time. Something about the cam being very fragile.

I wish one of our members would do a step by step on valve seal stems, complete with tools and post it on the DIY.

It seems like at some point every 103 engine needs to have this done.

Thanks for any consideration.

your right I should have taken pics and done a step by step, but once I started I just wanted to get it done, I removed them all so I had more room for spring compressor, one of the guys said he made a spring compressor out of a tower by removing the rocker, this a great idea but I didn't see it till after of course

Sorry to hijack. I'm doing this job hopefully within the next 2 to 3 weeks due to burning a quart in about 800 miles. I think I have it all figured out, except... In your experience(s), what brand spring compressor works, and where can I get it? Can it be rented at Autozone?

I got one from northern auto, a clamping type goes over spring and hooks on coils, not perfect but it worked, I think it was $30 I think

Was it this one?

looks the same, and the one you pictured is a good name brand, if you have any trouble withit slipping put a hose clamp around it. use some oil or light grease when you install the seals
