300 TE or TD aficionados, for questions...

I am interested to know some info about either..... Question.. is the 124 like the 123, in that the 123 has integral to the engine casting, a rear suspension hydraulic pump, unlike the sedan engine which has no such pump?

I'm considering a conversion for a 1990 TE using a sedan 603. Did the 87 TD 603 have a different casting adopted for the rear suspension, or was the engine the same as the sedan?

Finding a nice 87 TD is seldom, so the idea of conversion comes to my mind!

Any thoughts or input will greatly be apprieciated.........BB:confused:

The 124 diesel wagon did not have the hydraulic pump cast into the engine head like the 123 wagon did. Rather, the 124 wagon uses a so-called "tandem-pump" to power both the self leveling and the power steering. It's really two separate pumps built into one. It has a standard reservoir and pump for the power steering. It also has fittings for a separate pump to draw from the self leveling reservoir and feed the suspension.

I'm not certain the engine castings are identical between the sedan and wagon, but I very much suspect they are. Most likely the differences lie only in the pump, or at most the pump+mounting bracket.

My $.02,

I kinda suspected that!

What do you think of doing such a conversion, from TE to a TD?

engine conversion

Hi BusyBenz, wondering whether you made the swap in the meantime.
Cheers
