How do I get the center console of my w126 420?

Ok So my Recirculation decides not to work one day and that got me pissed as I was in traffic behind a diesel school bus... Well now I bought a new button and want to install it. How do I get the wood piece off where the climate control buttons are. I have gotten the radio out already but just cant find where to take that wood off! My dam service book shows a pic of the manual climate control with knobs so that doesnt help me. Thx

look under the low portion of the wood where the radio was, you should see two phillips screws, one on each side.

I think that the Recirculation is located on the right side not under the wood u mentioned. It happened to me so the electrician opened the passenger's box then from inside he closed it by a strong wire so it doen't open again.

I would be willing to bet money (and that doesn't happen often), that the problem is not the switch itself, but rather the two vacuum pods/actuators that move the recirc. flap. The two are located behind the glovebox.

You don't need to take the wooden pannel off to remove the switch; it can be removed by a small minus screwdriver from the top and the bottom of the switch itself slowly slowly. BE CAREFUL not to harm the wooden pannel.
