Question on 126 Console w/Storage Compartment

I've looked through several threads and member photos but haven't seen an armrest setup like mine. It's got a locking compartment.

I like the compartment but there's no padding in most spots and as
you can see in the pictures, the covering sags. Also, the end piece
on the passenger side where it's attached is missing. There are also
a few rust colored stains at the edge of the lid. I've got sheepskins on
the seat but would like to replace or fix this box.

Does anyone know if this was a factory option or an aftermarket
piece?

Also, there's a wire coming from a hole in the driver's seat going to
a pre-drilled hole with grommet into the console with an RJ-22 type
connector (see photo below). I'm assuming this is for a phone? Why
would it wire into the driver's seat?

Thanks,

Bill

Never seen an armrest like that!! Not a bad idea though.

You may just have to have it retrimmed.

As for the 'phone - maybe the PO had a vibrating setup so when the 'phone rang....... , sorry, really don't know.

I was thinking that I could pull it and have an upholsterer or
someone along those lines put padding in put I'd like to find
the large round part that goes on the end. I'd also like to know
if this armrest originally had a pushbutton like the regular armrests
that locked it in position.

Thanks, Snibble. I just found their website. It doesn't look like
they make them any longer but I'm going to contact them and
see if they repair them.

All the best,

Bill

It looks like an RJ-45 that is used to connect a network cable!

I spoke with Sam Bird, the owner of the company that made it
and he said they were designed back when cell phones were
very bulky. The company is still around and makes similar products
for Jags and BMW's with a drink holder inside.
