'80 280SL Euro Headlights
While replacing the glass lens on my Euro SL I noted the vacumn unit attached to the lamp assembly. I assume that the rotary switch, ajacent to the headlight switch, in some way controls the headlight function. Could someone be kind enough to explain how this whole assembly should work. Thanks in advance!

The rotary switch adjusts the headlights up and down. I think that 0 is the default position that you want with just a driver. If you carry passengers or a load, the rear of the car dips down and your lights will be misaligned ie. too high. The rotary switch will bring your light beams down to the road where you can use them.
