Does anyone happen to know the location of the transmission "controler" or "computer"?? <1990 300SL>

I've been working on this all day and I now know the problem isn't in the transmission itself, so now I need to check the computer....

Where are all the free MB techs when you need them

Tox!

The computer is mounted near the fuel computer, under the hood. Rt rear of the engine area under the plastic cover. It is marked with HGS & has a knob on top to remove it! CONTROLS only 4th to 5th gear shifts.

Thank you MB DOC!

Now let me ask you a couple of questions if I may be so bold.

I dropped the pan and checked the 4-5 shift sol. Although I didn't have a dvom handy I applied 12 volts and the sol. clicked.

Is there anything I can do as far as testing the computer other then a continuity test on the actual wires running to the transmission?

I worked on a Volvo once that had a transmission problem and there was a fuse for the computer hidden under the hush panel, would the Benz have such a thing?

Thank you in advance,

Tox!

I've been experiencing very reluctant kick-downs on 1st in the 260E W124. Could this be a possible cause link to the computer too?

TO go much farther you need to find what codes are stored in the Trans computer. ALMOST every time that there are problems with this trans it's the solenoid!! However wiring connection problems are possible. This is an analog code & easily read with blink light or impulse tester.

ONLY cars with 722.5 & 722.6(trans types) have computers. THE W124 260E doesn't have any computer controls.
