Doors Lock Themselves...ALARM goes off

While driving down the road recently my doors locked themselves and triggered the alarm. The car drove normally otherwise, but it was obviously very embarrassing...I felt like I was stealing my own car. I later tried locking the doors right after starting the car and all was well. Everything is still ok unless I forget to lock the doors manually. If I don't...alarm again. Could this simply be the door lock vacuum pump. If so, where is it located and how troublesome to replace? Thanks in advance...Bill

Check the right front door locking mechanism carefully. If the over center spring which allows for locking and unlocking that door when the system is locked breaks, it allows the button to drop down slightly which is enough to start the automatic locking process.

autozen...

Thanks for the reply. I've noticed that the lock cylinder is binding when I put the key in to lock/unlock. Do you think that if I replace the cylinder it will cure both problems? Thanks...Bill

I seriously doubt it. If you have the problem I suspect, it is in the latch mech in the door and not the tunbler.

This has happened twice to my 300ce in the past 8 months. It happens when I have unlocked the car.

it is embarrassing... Some say it's because the locking mechanism on the drivers door is wearing out...

I have thought about hooking up a keyless remote sometime in the future if this problem persists.

Why not just disconnect the alarm horn. Nobody pays attention to them anyway. I had that happen the other night on an 88 300SEL. A police cruiser was driving by at the time. They didn't even stop to ask if it was my car.
