w124 Euro Headlights again - which one
I know this topic has been brought up which I found in the archives....and I know that brands like Depo or TYC are 1/2 priced alternatives to the Bosch or Hella route. But on ebay, there is vendor fourbyfourclub.com is selling a unit they say thats imported from Italy which hasn't been mentioned here before. He didn't mention the mfg. Anyone have experience with the units from this vendor?
I'm still considering the Hella route, and Puma-access.com was mentioned as a Hella vendor a couple years ago, but they don't have the w124 units listed on their website anymore. The only place I could find it was from adsitco.com for $445, but the site doesn't say if its Hella or not....but I'm assuming it is based on the price. Importvision.com sells their unit for about $250, which based on previous posts is a Depo unit, but it doesn't include the 6 prong light connectors. Katmac imports start their bidding for the TYC units for $180, no corner lights fourbyfourclub sells their imports from Italy for $250 with corner lights. Besides adsitco, anyone else selling the Hella Euro unit discounted? Or should I just get a set of 6" round hella's and mount them on the bumper? I drove my 300TD outside of the city last night in the rain on the highway for the first time ever and the amount of light I got from the OEM units was about as good as my 50's vintage 6v cars....it was scary, time to upgrade.

Try www.capitolwest.com
They sell OEM Bosch or Hella euros. Also try searching the posts of ebennz on this site. He has posted a lot of info on euro's. Also, for light bulb info, check out www.danielsternlighting.com

I put euros from Katmac on my 126 today. They do offer a set with smoked
corner lights for $289 with free shipping. That includes the headlights, plugs, main bulbs and colored bulbs for the corners. I paid a few bucks extra for new foglights, too. The quality on the headlights is first-rate. They are very similar to the Bosch units I replaced. The corners are lower quality than the Bosch but the difference is where you don't see it. It took me ten minutes to get one of the bulb sockets to twist on because of slopply molding. When you install the corners, I recommend putting the sockets in before mounting them in the car. Also, Katmac's instructions show wiring the plugs last. I recommend doing this before putting the headlights in. If not, it's a little tricky getting the plug oriented and on the headlight. The beams are off on mine but the quality of light looks a lot better. You have to remove the glass but the beams are adjustable up and down and left to right. The fogs go up and down only. Bill
