OK. I own a 1993 400E. I purchased the Sport Spring set from Neuspeed for $125. They said for 300E/E320 w124s. I bought them anyways. I was wondering if these would work on my car. I am thinking that the rears would work, but the fronts wouldn't becuase of the added engine weight. What do you guys think? Here's the box and the springs if this helps any. Thanks.

The springs have pretty much the identical part number to the H&R Springs for the 300e. Not sure if they match with the 400e, but I think I remember that on H&R's site the springs for the 400e were the same, but not sure on that, so don't quote me on it.
From my understanding, Neuspeed used to contract H&R to make their springs for them, before H&R decided it wanted to sell springs int he states. Not sure ont hat though, but I believe thats what I have read. I'm getting my neuspeed srpings installed on my 300Ce next week. I can't wait. :) At the price they were at, if they wont work, then I can always sell them, and probably for a profit too. :) hehe Alon |
hey i have a 92 400E. Those are the EXACT SAME part #'s to the H&R's I put on my car last week. You should be ok. Why the hell did I pay soooo much more if they are the same spring though???

oh by the way...these springs REALLY lower the car. In fact, I have stock rims and same stock size tires, and the tops of all the tires are inside the wheel well. In other words, you cant even stick your hand up there! I did not change the spring pads, and i figure the pads that were on it were already the lowest ones from the factory. It looks killer, but not ugly!!!

Hey Pbalias, do you know how to tell from visible or other means how thick the springs are?
I'm sure it has been asked before, and I will search on it. Want to pick up spring pads if mine are very thick, if they are on the low side then I'll just leave them. Though maybe I will go with the thinest pads for the huge drop. We shall see. I want to try to level the front and back, or have it just one pad bigger to raise just a tiny bit. What do you think? wrong springs!
After reading the good news about $125 lowering springs from neuspeed..i called them and the tech guy told me these are NOT the right springs for a 400e/e420. THe front ones from h+r are heavier then these..due to the weight of the 420 engine. He told me h+r has different springs for the 400. He also said Neuspeed used to offer these, but due to the fact they were not doing Mercedes anymore, they had been sold out of 400 kits a long time ago.
the tech said they "might" work, but that the springs were definitely not the right front ones for the car. NoDubs..didn't you ask the tech guys at neuspeed before you picked these up? jp |
Spring rates I think go by the weight of the car and not just 50lbs but, 100s or 1000s. Unless the weight in the front and/or back is significantly less than the 400E which, I don't think so. You should be fine. That is also why certain springs are stiffer than others. You can also custom make your set-up. Race stores have these at a cheap price also. I think Pegasus sells some Airplane manufacturer that produces springs. http://www.pegasus.com
Some other manufacturers including, H&R can customize a set-up but, of course you would probably pay a premium price. One question I have for all you MB enthusiast. Why do you guys use H&R? I have used Eibachs on another vehicle and thought they were much better in durability. H&R springs usually cause trouble within time from personal experiences with my friends that have bought them. I am not talking about one or two but, like half a dozen people have told me their complaints. I remembered seeing applications for W-124 also for Eibachs. I could be wrong though on the application. |

The rep might've said that to cover his tail of any responsiblibility. Try getting the front and rear weight of 300E and compare it to your owner's manual's weight of your car. Also, contact H&R directly via internet or telephone. Hope this helps. Somebody alreadys said from a previous post that it was the same p/n as his 400E springs. Don't panic. Have you even put them on yet? |
nope i haven't put them on
