79 300CD Front Caliper Leak

I have a 79 300CD, and when I got it, the front brakes were in pieces.
My question is; Is the a seal that goes in between the two halves of the Bendix caliper, and where can I get them?
I bought some metric rubber washers that worked for a little while, but then the calipers started leaking profusely, to the point of no fluid/brakes at all.
Can someone lend a hand here?

Thanks!!!! Jay

I would strongly suggest biting the bullet and buying a rebuilt caliper. If it were any other part of the car, I'd say have fun and experiment away, but you are dealing with brakes here. You arespecially dealing with front brakes which do about 75% of the stopping. You are dealing with possible personal injury and maybe not just your own.;)

I'll second that.....yeah you CAN rebuild them but I am of the mindeset get safety critical items rebuilt by pro's.....some things you need to spend a little extra for. If you had one fail and someone dies...you have recourse...if YOU rebuilt it guess who gets the shaft?

Don't bother with the two halves ... get rid of them and find some rebuilt ones .... but nobody will take a caliper as a core that's been split (in my experience). A liability issue I beleive.

I have done several sets of replacements of calipers and I always was warned not to split them apart.

If you can't find good core, go to a wrecking yard and ask to buy their worst set (low cost) and turn them in for cores.

Follow everyone's advice here: they are part of your braking system.

Purchase rebuilt calipers don't mess around with brakes.
