Primer on new rotors !
Just received a new pair of rear brakerotors from my dealer.
They are totally covered in grey primer ( prevent rusting during storage ). If memory serves me right, I believe they can be installed " as is ". Is my memory in tact or failing me ( again ). :o |
no..it will foul and contaminate your brake pads....you MUST have clean bare metal as a brake surface.

The MB Parts Department folks have told me there is no need to remove the primer before installing new rotors and I've never had a problem. I would check with a MB dealer Service Advisor for the straight story.

not primer, do not remove it
do not remove the coating!!! it will remove it self with the first few brake aplications, it will not foul the pads at all. just drive and enjoy. i will see if i can find some service info about that, the coating actually also helps prevent the non contact areas of the rotor from rusting as quickly they normally would
