87 420SEL with only 57,000 miles, has a head gasket leak. Does the 116 eng. have a history of bad head gaskets? If so, have the replacement gaskets been improved?

no these engines do not have that problem at all. mine had its first replaced at 200k because I let someone use the car and they over heated. Their is no weakness in the heads that i have ever heard of. was your car overheated? I'm not sure the may go with time to.

There are many ways to abuse equiptment. One is to drive a 420SEL 57k in 14 years. Sitting around does them no good.
