Anyone know how many of these could have been imported during the 1980s or production numbers in general?
I saw one of these in town and wasn't aware they existed. Since my Euro 280E I was going to get has cancer ![]() Thanks ![]()

they are all
gray market. a few are around. there is one near lafayette i think that originally was a sort of california coupe with a sideways jump seat and no soft top. 280 fiver. wouldnt mind having one some day.

Since that car was never imported directly I DOUBT that you will ever find how many made their way here. I would guess less than 500!
OF course the 1981-84 cars were the best! more HP at least.

Sounds like that 745i Turbo, I think around 100 were allowed to come in yearly... though I heard of some slipping through as 733 and 735s. So over a six year time frame, numbers are low.
Any clue if those 280SLs were mostly/only manual trans? Were those motors more powerful than the 280E ones?
