Clk230 (wdb208) Fuel Sender

I have just replaced the left and right fuel sender units because the fuel gauge was showing empty and the low fuel light was on with [plenty of fuel in the tank]. Still the same problem, so I connected the old sensors up externaly and moved the floats at the same time. To my surprise the fuel gauge works back to front, yes it will go to full when both floats are resting on empty. Surely the instrument cluster and or gauges don't need calibrating. [ If I bridge the connectors on both sender units the gauge moves to full]Please help.

Aftrer change the senders disconnect the batterzy for 10 minutes and after drive the car normally untill the 1st tank is gona.
After the clustre will show us the exact level i do not know exactly but it is like auto calibration...
On my car this procedure worked.

Fuel Sender units

Thanks For your reply Alberto,
I find it strange though that a fuel gauge would read back to front. By the way did you get your information from the Dealer?? Disconecting the battery suggests one is re-setting the instrument cluster electronics. I disconected the battery for a few minutes but no luck.
Tony

Until somebody corrects me, I have a VERY hard time believing that a new fuelsender has to be " trained " or calibrated.
From what I do know, any sensor I have looked at & played with, is a simple variable resistor.
Example: GM sender would be 0 ohms resistance = empty tank, 90 ohms resistance = full tank.
Chrysler sender 70 ohms resistance = empty tank, 10 ohms resistance = full tank.
Note: They are " backward " to each other.
Sorry, I don't know what the values for M-B cars ( current or past models is ) but, as stated earlier, they should not need " training ".
