When turning in parking lot ,there is a noise in the front end. sounds like something pops out of place. On the highway the car will stay in the lane without holding the wheel. The left tie rod has some play in it. :thanks joe

play
means you need to replace either the tie rod end or the entire assembly. if the tube turns the ends are pretty easy to do. sometimes it is pretty tough to get the tube to turn.

on occasion
i have counted threads on the new tie rod end and just put it back and got away without doing an alignment. but some folks have reported having a problem after trying it that way.
conventional wisdom says do an alignment. tom w
