1982 280TE runs rich on start up but ok after warm up

I have a 1982 Mercedes 280TE which was imported from Germany in 1987. I recently bought it and have been having troubles when it is first started running extremely rich. I have changed plugs and ran several cans of injector cleaner with little to no help. Once it runs for about 10 - 15 minutes it runs OK and the longer it runs the better it seems to run. I have been looking around this forum for ideas but most seem to be diesel related problems and not gasoline like this one. I am relatively new to the Mercedes field but am familuar with American cars. The car does have high milage 262,000 but does not appear to be using any oil and does run good once it is warmed up so I do believe the engine's basic mechanics are sound, no knocking or excessive ticking, mild value tick and no noticable smoke once it is warmed up but lots of black smoke when it is cold. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

You will need to have the fuel pressures checked in order to determine the exact cause. You'll need to know what your "sytem pressure" and your "control pressure" currently is in order to set a diagnositc path. My suspicion would be a faulty warm up regulator, however it may also be crossed vacuum lines to the device. The Euros were slightly different than US models when it came to accelration enrichement.

Smile Found good honest mechanic a Rare find!!

Took my car to a independant Mercedes mechanic that came highly recommended and he was able to readjust the injection system and warmup regulator to get it running properly. Anyone in the Augusta,Ga area that has a Mercedes or BMW that they can't fix may want to check these people out, they seem real honest and reliable as long as you give them the time they need and at a reasonable rate. They are Bavarian Mechanics Works locate in Augusta Ga, they are in the phone book and I highly recommend them. They save me from having to buy a Warmup Regulator that is not a cheap part. I apreciate the suggestions as they prove to be right but I got lucky and found someone with the knowledge to repair it.
