1980 W-116 Emissions
Hello all...jsut found this forum and have a quick question.
I am new to the MB family and have just purchased a 1980 450SEL on e-bay that is in great shape physically but has just failed it's emissions test. The car has some vacuum issues (door locks do not work, brake booster does not work etc) and I do not know if these things are inner-connected. Tennessee law say's the HCL (hydrocarbon) output can be a max of 300 PPM mine is over 8000 (yes THOUSAND) somewhere in the system the car is not burning HC where do I start? Thanks in advance! Rick |

With 8000 ppm of HC, I would start with a real good tune-up.
May as well do a compressions test, while you have the sparkplugs out. The vacuum problem could also have an effect on the readings ( if it is a big leak ). 8000 ppm sounds like an almost " dead miss " on one cylinder?
