Intermittent fuel smell in cabin '86 420sel
I am experiencing an intermittent fuel smell in my cabin, esp. at idle or low speed? Any suggestion on where to start?
Thanks, John |
Possible causes include fuel cap not sealing, leaking EHA, fuel neck leaking, or something in the fuel pump package leaking (hose, connection, etc.)

Does it happen most often just after you fill up? If so, the problem is most likely a gas cap not sealing properly. I had those symptoms and a new gas cap fixed the problem.

I swore I was smelling diesel in my C230!! Turned out it was an exhaust leak at the manifold... Was especially strong in the morning and at stop lights. (duh).

For location purposes, the EHA is under the aircleaner, so locating it can be tricky for the first time. If 6 is the middle of the front bumper and you are facing the car, then the EHA is around the 2 o'clock position.
