Question Spilled h20 in gear/console:car not starting

Hi,
Hope someone can give me some advice. I have a 2000 E430 and I spilled a bottle of H20 onto the console and then it went down the gear shift area. Now the car does not start. Has this happened to anyone else? Thanks
Everything works on the car (windows, locking system, etc..). Could the water have caused a short in the electical system and after it dries the car will start? Any advice would be appreciated.
