I recently acquired a 1985 280SL (euro). Great car, no major problems, a real pleasure to drive. I have a very slight leak of transmission fluid, I believe it is from the pan gasket due to improper installation from the last fluid change. I will redo that soon but in the meantime could someone recommend the correct fluid to use to top up? The owners manual does not specifically call for a certain kind and I don't know what brand the previous owner used.

Also, I am looking for a complete shop manual and parts list. I have a 107 chassis manual on CD and I also have the "wis" program. The engine in my car is a 110.990 (straight 6) but I am not finding references to that specific engine. The WIS refers to 110.986, 110.984 etc. Does anyone know if there are major differences to the 110.990 from some of the previous models such as the engines in the 280se or 280s?

I have tried contacting the Mercedes classic museum, but so far no response.
