Bonehead move of the day
 

So my bro-in-law runs his 2001 E320 out of gas today. He calls his mother's boyfriend for help who in turn brings him 5 gallons of "gas." He pours the "gas" into his tank and heads to the nearest service station. The car is running bad all the way there (less than a mile.) He fills the tank with gas and it wont start. He had the car towed to a safe place. They check the jerry can and it was actually diesel:eek: . So he now has a full tank of a very interesting blend of fuel.

What does he need to do with the vehicle now? Flame away if you would like.:D

The big problem with getting it running is that the 112 motor has a returnless fuel system and diesel doesn't evaporate well.

I would open the fuel pressure port at the front right of the fuel rail and bypass the fuel pump relay. I would pump a few gallons out. If you got 5 gallons of diesel in there then you will probably have to drain the tank and find somewhere to properly dispose of the fuel. Once you clear the heavy concentration of diesel in the rail, it will run but it is going to smoke like a mosquito fogger. All of this isn't too good for the O2 sensors or cats so you better drain it.

I suppose the easiest way would be to just put a hose on the pressure port with the schrader removed or with a proper hose that depresses it. Keep a charger around as you may run the battery down running the pump. Don't charge the battery with the key on or even in the ignition.

and while/after pumping do not disconnect the battery charger from the battery if there is any spillage of gasoline at the front of the car in the vicinity of the battery;).
