1995 W124 Center Vent Light replacement
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hello there, I need to replace the center vent light on my 1995 w124. As you all might know, the 95s doesn't have the glovebox feature. Instead it has been replaced by the fixed SRS panel. I have the Service manual CD and unfortunately, the center vent removal section only covers prior year models ( with the glovebox ). I can easily remove the left side ( driver's side ) but can't figure out how to remove the right side. There seems to be a screw that's securing it, just like the prior years, but in the 1995s case, I have the fixed SRS panel to deal with. Thanks for any help or tips. SFJoe |
You have to remove the airbag cover - the bolt holding it on is found on the underside of the dash on the passenger side. I think it requires a 6" socket extender to reach it.
Disconnect the battery first! |
funny just did this last week;
1. disconect neg battery cable 2. remove passenger floor mats 3. remove black metal footrest (1 phillips screw) 4. disconnect RED air bag plug, make sure battery is disconnected 5. 10mm socket + extension up hole, remove air bag (hold in hand upright) 6. unscrew black phillips screw to right of vent (put air bag back in temporarily) 7. 3mm hex key unscrew flap in middle of vent 8. 2 clips next to instrument cluster pry/hold up/down 9. remove vent 10. unroute electric line 11.gently wiggle until bulb socket comes out 12. clean vent, 2-3 watt osram gray bulb, push in, reroute wire, make sure RED plug is connected before connecting battery, test, do not overtighten hex screw |
