Transmission change for 190's
I have a bad transmission RT-722.414 in a 1987D 2.5 non turbo. I would like to know if I could put in a RT-722.400 from a 1984 190E? I can change the Vacuum mod's and cable's....any ideas if it would work?
Another possibilty is I can get a stick shift tranny from a gas 2.3...will it work with the 190D 2.5 non T?? I would have the donor gas car to get all of the standard shift components....Thanks Ves Thanks Ves |
stick
seems like best choice to me.
should work fine. driveshaft might need changing in length. otherwise should be a bolt in. the diesel flywheel will be heavier probably. the gas will probly bolt up but with a light flywheel will shake around more. diesel flywheels should be readily available from salvage yard. if ds needs shortened or lengthened the shift rods will need same adjustment. hmmmmm lets see, i suspect that the ds would be a bit longer for the diesel if not the same length. the automatics will interchange but the gasser and diesel will have different rpm shift points. the gasser tranny will want to let it rev too much on upshift i think. going the other way will be a bit safer but it will short shift. good luck tom w |
