F150 Question
I think I'm buying a Ford F150 2005 Super cab 4X4. I've looked on the Ford Forum and seen posts about vibrations an shimmys at high way speed. I have not signed up with that forum but can anyone elaborate as to what the problem is? Is it something inherent in bigger tires? The truck would be an addition - not replacing either of the MBs.

is it
constant or just when you hit a bump.
my 03 dodge and my 99 durango shimmyed when i hit small imperfections. very disconcerting as the front end would wash sideways on a curve, then bite again. i cured it on the 03 ram 3/4 ton with rancho's best nine way adjustable shocks. transformed the truck. tom w |
I don't have the truck yet but this is what I've read on the Ford Forum but not much detail given to the problem there.

Asking on the MB forum is a waste of time - check the Ford forums. The '04 F150 had this problem from the start, but you'll need to search their forums for the answer.

Their Forum looks OK but I can't find the 'Search' feature. This is why I asked for people's experience with the F150 shimmy here because everyone is so accomodating :) .

Buying Ford is the problem...
Ever seen a ford product last 15 years? not really.... You might complain about vibrations now...give it 10 years and it might just fall apart. My dad's owned a 97 150 since new, and its been nuthin but crap and break down. Keep in mind, they sell 450 000 trucks a year, when they can find a way to save a couple dollars, they do since it saves them millions based on the volume...i question ford f series quality.
I think your better off buying a Toyota Tundra, I've never met anyone that hasn't loved that truck to death while they've owned it, and been empressed by its ride and build quality. Nissan Titan seems like another qualtity build. |
My uncle has that exact same truck and seems to really like it. He just slid off the road in VT a few months ago and did $5k worth of damage to the front end. It is pretty cool everything except the hood, fenders, and chrome bumper cover is plastic. Hood seems to be aluminum. He doesn't say anything bad about it.
My dads friend has an 03 or 04 and drive a lot. I think he has 70k on it and doesn't do anything but change the oil once in awhile. The new F150's are pretty nice I see no reason not to buy one if you like them. |
