'00 C230K | Slight flaring on upshifts ...

2000 C230 Kompressor
53.5k
722.6 transmission
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Hi friends -

I've been noticing the last few weeks of driving that occasionally, I'm getting some flaring as I come to a stop and the transmission is upshifting. The flaring usually comes in right as I'm stopping. It gives me a little "snap" as I'm stopping. This is new - hasn't done this before. It won't do this when cold, but will start when operating temperatures are reached. It doesn't happen all of the time, but often enough that I've noticed it.

Other than that, shifting has been great - no problems, very smooth and no hesitations. Am planning on changing the fluid and filter at 60k.

Anything to be concerned about IYO?

Thanks,
Michael

no answer but just some things to consider.

Five speed automatics, I've heard, have a tendency to slam into first or low gear.

A failing AMM air mass meter can cause trans shifting issues, and many AMM's tend to fail at 60K.

Usually flaring is what is described as an upshifting slip? but you mention downshifting. You also mention the problem is new. On my 722.6 C230 it has always occasionally gone into low hard - and at 83K miles it seems fine.

These electronic transmissions can be connected to a dedicated diagnostic tool to find fault codes and problems.

Maybe I'm using the wrong terminology in describing my issue as I read Ethan's post now. The problem occurs as I'm coming to a stop and the transmission is shifting down to third, second, first ... maybe I meant to say DOWNSHIFT, not upshift. As I'm accelerating, everything's fine - the gears shift nice and smoothly, it's just when I'm slowing down.

Have you had the fluid changed?
M-B has a new super-duper fluid for your ( and the newer ) transmissions.

Hi Manny -

I was going to do that at 60k, but perhaps this issue will force me to do it a bit sooner than that?
