?? 94 E320 Sunroof question ??
 

When I open my sunroof from the inside of the car it slides back about 3/4 of the way and get stuck and peters out. When I go to close it with the switch it lags initially, I have to pull the roof with my hand and then gets going and closes. Is there any type of grease I should apply to the mechanism of the sunroof? Am I burning out the switch by holding back while the sunroof peters out? If I need to grease then where would I apply it and what type is recommended?
Its obviously not a life or death thing, but I like the sunroof and it may be something simple like grease that will fix it..Any help is appreciated.

Had same problem with my '86 300E, I lubricated the rails but problem remained. Ended up to be the cable from the sunroof to motor was binding inside the guide tube. In my case the cable attaches to the sunroof and runs through a tube back to the motor in the trunk. Some of the little white plastic ferrules on the cable were worn and binding inside the tube. I replaced the cable which resolved the problem. The fix was not that bad, I followed instructions from the MB cd, worked carefully, and it took about three hours.

I would start with lubing the rails. Seach and you'll find the steps and the special lube that's needed. Although they're probalbly bone dry now, clean the rails with just a clean, lint-free cloth. Then lube it up. Then clean it again. Then lube real good. Slowly use the switch to open and close the roof. Clean and lube again several times taking time to slowly use the switch to open the roof and work in the new lube. It may take a while, but you should be good to go and will have saved yourself a busted roof or big bucks.

Moonroof work is expensive and the liner is a couple of hundred dollars.

Mercedes requires a special lube for the sun roof. It is VERY important to keep the rails inner and out lubed. Mercedes only sells it in a big, very expensive tub which will last you seven life times. But I did find small, cheap quanities on EBAY. I looks like much more clear Vaseline.
