K1 kit install in 722.3 tranny...tools, tips?

Got the K1 spring kit from FastLane to fix the 2-3 shift flare that has recently manifested on my W124's tranny.

I'm ready to do the install this week. I read some good threads including pics on the procedure, but I'm still apprehensive as tranny fixes are uncharted territory for me.

Here are some of my concerns:

How much time does it take to do this?

I have 7 quarts of Castrol Dextron III to refill when I'm done (owner's manual says 6.6). Is refilling performed at the dipstick or somewhere else?

Does the pan need to be removed to access the valve body that contains the spring assembly?

Thanks in advance for any help...anyone else score points with the spouse when you can tackle these types of repairs? ;)

offset straight screwdriver (picture a wrench with a screwdriver bit at a 90 degree angle) is needed for the valve body part....you won't get the angle or torque needed with a regular screwdriver.

Be scrupulously clean when the pan is off. As far as time it is all in how efficiently you work, as little as 30 minutes to as much as several hours. Its not hard, just tedious. Yes you have to drop the pan so figure a gasket and filter while you are in there.

I know certain neighbors are jealous I can do all this myself.....wife just smiles...

Thanks for the tips BHD!

I had the tranny drained and refreshed a year ago by my indie...do I still need to replace gasket and filter?

Also, need question answered re: refill location? Dipstick or case?

Refill at the trans dipsitick

yes you will need a new gasket at least (it's likely to leak if you try to reuse it, then what does 7 quarts of ATF cost? see my point) ...but do the filter too since its open..somethings its best to do just becasue you are already into it.

Guess I'm doing a gasket and filter too. Thanks for the info!
