CLK430 Will not start-any suggestions
I have an 01 CLK430 that I have owned for about a year now. A couple of weeks ago my battery went bad so I had it replaced but since then I have had major problems with the car. My check engine light came on while driving it back from the dealership after they installed the new battery. At take off from a stop light, the car began to run very rough. When I got home and parked it I called the dealership and they had a service tech check it out. He thought it was either the Mass air flow sensor or a bad ignition wire. I took it back to the dealership to have them read the codes and after 3 hours they told me it looked like it was two things, the Air sensor and a cylinder that was mis-firing. They told me I should change the spark plugs. I ordered an Air sensor online and bought a couple of spark plugs. A couple of days before the air sensor came in I was driving the car and it lost all power even though I was pressing on the excellerator. It came to a halt and died. I installed the new air sensor yesterday and the spark plugs but while I was driving it, the car ran fine and then did the same thing. It lost power and died. Now it will not restart. They thought that there might be moisture in the gas lines causing the cylindar mis-fire. Does anyone have any helpful ideas on what it might possibly be? I would rather not have it towed a couple of hours to take it to the dealership if I don't need to. Thanks for any help or suggestions

Curious.
Did they check your alternator output? I have seen many of theese cars lose power and die due to a bad alternator. Your car can do all kinds of strange things when the alternator no longer powers your vehicle control modules, and the car runs as long as it can on battery power till that runs out. In the meantime you can have all kinds of weird gremlins going on. In most cases the (SRS) light will come on as well. Make sure you check alternator output. The tech may have been lazy and not even checked it, it happens. |
