190E Bonnet (hood) prop
 

I have just bought my first mercedes, a 1989 190E. The extending ram which should support the hood has come apart. I have obtained a replacement but am not sure how it is meant to work. I know the catch near the hinges can be locked to hold the hood up (vertical). Is there anything simple I have missed or do I just need to fit the new prop ram?

The only thing you may need is a new "push through" pivot thingy which fits at the bonnet end of the prop. There is a hole which the pivot pushes through and it looks like its got "one way" action so the old one can't be recovered and reused.
