85 300 td Starts up then dies, only when cold
Hello everyone,
I need some help with my wagon. When I start it up it immediately dies, unless I give it some pedal then it doesnt die, but I have to give it about 1500rpms for about 10 seconds, then it is good, if not it just quits. The motor is fairly new crate motor from MB, and it has about 80kmiles on it. Weather here is 20-35 degrees Fahrenheit. Glow Plugs? Fuel Injectors? Timing? Any help would be much appreciated. Love to all, The kid |
i want to say fuel related. possibly air getting into the system somehow.
what kind of fuel are you using ? |
That is what I was sort of thinking too, l am running b20, so shouldnt be an issue, I did have a fuel preheater on it, and now I am thinking that when I pullled that off, the hose from the metal fuel line to the IP is sort of convoluted, like there may be a constant bubble in it, so I may be routing that line with less hose.

you could always temporarily hook up a bottle of regular diesel to it aft of the primary filter and see what happens..

1) Change fuel filters. Remember to adequately bleed air from system.
2) Add antigel to your tank of fuel (When I lived in Minnesota, I started this in October and continued until April; remember B20 is only 80%D, probably D#2, which will increase geling point). 3) Could consider D#1, if available, though tradeoff is aloss of power. 4) Consider a block warmer Overall, sounds typical for some cold weather starts, which 25-35 degrees is. Using B20 will exacerbate this. |
