Maybe you need to trade it in for a Benz.....

Arthur Dalton 03-19-2006 06:20 PM

Ok
I guess I have to ask ..

What possessed you to go to a Benz site to ask for a Buick diagnosis ????

450slcguy 03-19-2006 10:20 PM

sounds like your ignition module, about $400 at dealer.

derryb 03-19-2006 11:07 PM

did you do a tune up?

Might have two plug wires crossed.

trueog 03-19-2006 11:56 PM

If it wasn't for the black smoke, it sounded like the fuel pump being clogged and about to die or you're injectors.

Fire out of the exhaust? I think someone may have been teasing you. I may be wrong, but I have never heard tell of it.

Not so fast about "dissing" Buicks. :)
They are one of the most reliable American cars on the road and if you notice on that little chart posted here, Buicks rated far better than Benz in terms of problems. :D

I saw this once. A twenty year old American sedan in obvious disrepair was motoring down the freeway in the San Fernando Valley, heavy traffic, with a noticeable amount of flame coming from the exhaust pipe. How? I don't really know.

I don't understand why we get these posts every once in awhile. Why would someone post a Buick queston on a Mercedes forum?

I'll take stab though, it does sound electrical in nature.

Agreed. Chrysler and Jeep, I can understand, since MB bought 'em...but I'm clueless on others.

Could be. Or, it could be something else. Obviously, the car is running rich, but guessing at a cause with no more information than provided is just that...a guess. Any number of electrical or mechanical problems could cause an over-rich condition. I'd guess, in no particular order, Oxygen sensor, MAF sensor, ECT sensor, stuck or leaking fuel injector, leaking pressure regulator.

Or it could be something else.

On a 2000 Buick with these symptoms, it should certainly light up the CEL & set a number of codes.
May want to check into that. ;)

Sounds like it may have had one of those "flame thrower" exhausts.

Cars just to not throw out flames out the tailpipe on a factory unit. There is some sort of exhaust system that is designed to do this. Mostly for show.

A little silly if you ask me, but no one did. :)

Yeah and what irritates me is that they make posts and never return.

If it is running rich he better fix it fast before the cats burn out.

I'd have the codes scanned and take it from their. Their are a billion Buicks around so any half way decent shop should be able to fix it.
