Low speed shake/shimmy
I have a '99 E320 4Matic with 73,000 miles. It recently developed a shimmy that I can feel in the driver's seat between 15 and 30 mph. Most noticeable on a smooth road while going slowly in heavy traffic. No shake or shimmy in steering wheel so it seems to be caused by something in the rear suspension/ tires/ bearings. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Answer
Bad tire, warped rotor or bent wheel rim.
Have a great day. |
I'm betting on worn tires. How old are the tires and how often have they been rotated?

The tires are not too worn, have a lot of tread and I didn't feel any flat spots or uneven wear. The rims look ok and the brakes seem ok - no pulsating or noise. Maybe a belt slipped in one of the tires - Continentals. Thanks for your input.

Replaced both rear tires today after mechanic inspected - the problem was corrected. Thanks for your input.
