My garage door openers have the rolling-code feature. They were installed when the house was built (1998). The Homelink controls on the other vehicles work fine.
I know the instructions for programming the "rolling-code" models are different from say, the gate opener, which is easily performed...

I HATE the auto-dim mirrors. I have one in my Corvette and the lag is awful. I would MUCH rather have a manual mirror.
Also, if you get some idiot behind you with high beams in the daytime you can forget it. The mirror will not auto-dim.

Great... hopefully it'll be able to fit onto any W124.
I found the same part number here: http://www.2phast.com/500e/techdocs/accessory_pricelist_2003.pdf listed as 'automatisch abblendbarer Innenspiegel'. Now to figure out where to buy it from... I guess the dealer would have it, wouldn't they?

The dealer could order it, but probably at the list price. The link above also works (178.**) to order it there.
IMHO I think you're making a mistake buying the OE one. I looked at them and thought they were ugly, outdated, and expensive. But its a matter of personal taste. I like the newer autodim mirror with homelink and installed one my car for much less than $178 (in fact I think after selling the original mirror the net cost was around $5 or something minimal like that) To each his own...

Hi - when the thread started, it mentioned the "new" self-dimming rear view mirrors - they really aren't THAT new, I had one in my 1959 Plymouth Sport Fury 2DHT. It worked really great. The only difference was it operated via a solenoid, so it made a noise when it dimmed. It was very responsive, though, and the sensitivity was adjustable.
