out of gas with 1/2 tank????
Heres a good one...
havent driven the merc for a week and took her up to Walmart today. Car was putting in the lot and stalled - just like running out of fuel. several cranks and nothing... The fuel gauge had been acting inconsisitent - so I thought to put some gas in and see (couldnt remember when I last got fuel) - car had sat for about 1/2 hour while getting the gas - started right up and drove to the near shell station. I was disappointed when it only took 7 gallons :( I drove the car home and let run for about 1/2 hour w/o issue... Here are my questions: What fuse is for the fuel pump - no fuse listed on the box says fuel. Do fuel pumps act up before they die - I thought they died / stayed dead... Is there a "pickup tube" or such in the tank? I may have to wait to get to 1/2 tank to see if the issue comes back... thanks for any thoughts Don |
What year of " Merc " ( Mercury ????? ) would that be ?
|
I noticed my Australian friends always referred to my "Benz" as a "Merc".
I never asked why....... Anyway, what year and model of car. Old 300E ? |
Hmmm
Year, make, model data needed..
First check the fuel related grounds. |
I can only speculate until I know what kind of car you have, but I'd suggest replacing your fuel filter for starters. Yes, a filter can act clogged one minute and act OK the next, at least in my experience. And yes, Fuel pumps do act up before they go kaputt. I don't know if your car has a fuel pump relay (my dad's 560sel does, and this relay breaks way too often). That should get you started.

sorry
...oops
this is a 91 300e... I will run the car again today and see how it responds... also planned on a fuel filter for starters.. regarding fuses... the 91 still has the older style "hot dog" fuses.... I know those can act up - but dont see one for the fule system. Thanks! don |
