1999 SLK230 roof closing problems

I have had on and off problems with my roof openning and closing for the past number of years. It seems when its been in the sun for awhile it stops working and when I put it in the shade or in the garage and leave it for a while it starts working again. I am not sure if the hydraulic fluid is low or something else. When it goes through it cycle to open I do not hear the roof lock open(I will put my forearm on the top of the roof(inside) and push it a little and sometimes it will work to open the roof)and when I try to close the roof, the truck opens and nothing else happens. I have made it work when(closing) I lifted the back panel behind the headrest.

Any thoughts, insights would be helpful

Gary

First time on - This is great

At the very foremost portion of the top where it meets near the windshield, there are two micro switches that have rubber boots on them.

You have to open the top slightly, remove the covering fom the forward portion of the top to expose the micro switches.

Peel away the rubber boots off of the switches with needle nose pliers and a sharp pick or pin.

get those rubber boots cleaned away from the switch plungers and put it all back together.

This will fix your problem and won't harm the switches.

The rubber bunches up and keep the switch plungers from moving freely.

Pay attention to how the cover comes off and take your time.

It's an easy fix and works like a champ. very common problem.
John. call me and I will walk you through it. 404-723-1346.
