Black Smoke?????new Mechanic !!!!!!!!!

I have had my 89 300 at the mechanic for what was identified as a fuel problem. Would start thencut off. He has replaced the converted/y pipe and tune up. He called the day I was suppose to pick up and said he was worried because when the test drove he saw black smoke. Now he thinks there is WATER in the gas tank?????????????????????????????

Why is this "showing Up" now???????????????? I never saw it before!!!

Worried this mechanic does not have a clue!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Black Smoke--

Dear Tired: Where are you located? Use the "search" tab for reputable mechanics in your area. Worked well for me. Good luck. Siduri19

Doesn't make sense

Your Mechanic's diag. does not make sense. If you had water in the gas, then replacing the parts he did should not have made it run, if fact if it would cut off because of the water, it should not have started at all. In addition, a water condition will result in white smoke, not black. If your convertor was plugged to the point of causing it to not run, (if that can happen) you would have noticed a great reduction in performance long before this, like it wouldn't want to get out of its own way.

I think I would check around for a Mechanic familiar with your vehicle

black smoke = unburned fuel

Has he checked the duty cycle and or adjusted the mix?

I second the second opinion...
