testing ignition control module??
My 1984 500SEL is having starting problems and from looking at a few of the posts here it appears it could be located in nthe ICM ot the coil. Is there a way to test the ignition control module or is it a replacement only option?

on that system you check the module for power, ground, & trigger signal from distributor to the module. If that checks out then the module is at fault!

The "green" lead for the distributor must generate a small A/C voltage durning crank. a few tenths of a volt A/C should be enough.

Thank you M.B.Doc.
I wanted to shorten that to just Doc, but didn't want to offend.:) |
hard to affend an old guy.. doc is fine

I unplugged the green lead from the distributor, but noticed it has a outer and inner contact. Do I connect between the wire and the ICM or between the wire internals?

:) I purchased a repair manual and have located the section on testing the ignition system. I believe this will give me my answers.
Thanks again Doc for the help. |
