Help! Knocking noise allong hydraulic pipes...

Hi everyone,
Can someone help me solve a problem with my MB?
First of all it is a cosworth 190E 1989 2.5-16v with "rear SLS and, ASD".
When the engine is running I here (from inside the car as well as from outside) a "knocking noise" comming from the rear of the car, aprox. every 2-3 sec.
I can feel the waves all along the hyrdraulic suspension pipes and the SLS valve. Can someone help me, what to check, what to replace, or what is causing this, so I can fix this problem?
Also, I feel that ASD is not working (or this could be from another reason?).
