2001 CLK430 conv. top inoperative.

The top as well as the roll bar and power windows don’t work on the car. If I disconnect and reconnect the battery, the windows and roll bar DO work normally but just for a little while. The roll bar switch red light is always on and the top switch light is always on. The trunk is closed and the trunk well cover is locked. I took it to a local mechanic who has a SnapOn scanner with the Mercedes cartridge and he said there were no body codes stored. The WIS states that a steady light when top switch is not actuated indicates: a defect in the soft-top operation control module (or fuse which I checked), or a defect or line interruption at the soft-top operation switch. What should I try next? Find another CLK conv. and swap top computers? I already have half the trunk apart to access the module. Does Mercedes use a tester for the module so I can carry it in and they can test it?

The VARIO roof control is part of the interior network..possibly there is a another fault not allowing the roof computer to function..YOU need to have the roof computer & network scanned when the roof is inop...
