Problem with the passenger AIRBAG OFF light.

Hello,

I have a SL320 from 1998. I have a problem with the AIRBAG OFF passenger light.

When I insert the key and start the engine, sometimes, the light of the passenger AIRBAG is on, and a beep noise can ear. Other times, I make the same, but the light of the passenger AIRBAG is off, no light and no beep noise.

In this example, no body is sitted on the passenger seat. I don't know if the system of the passenger AIRBAG ON/OFF is wrong or if it has a failure.

Could you help me?

Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Jorge Ruano

Is the SRS light on as well??

If not then the seat recognition sensor is MOST likely at fault.
THERE is also a seat belt lock switch on the seat as well.

No it isn't. The SRS light is off. I only can see the AIRBAG OFF light, and sometimes I can ear the beep as well.

Check that passenger seat is not moved backward into an obstruction in the rear passenger footwell.

I have more information about this problem:

When I ignite the engine, I observe that the cluster red light for the AIRBAG, is blinking 4 or 5 times... I occurs when a passenger is on the passenger seat. I think it is working fine, isn't it??? I think, when nobody is seated on the passenger seat, the cluster red light for the AIRBAG doesn't blink, is it correct???

But, I don't know why sometimes I can ear a beep (short beep), five times (like beep, beep, beep, beep, beep)... What is this sound???????

Thank you in advance.
Regards
