i am looking to purchase sparkplugs for my 1988 560sl...all the vendors have 1 plug for production up to april 1988 and another plug for may 1988 and beyond. is the production date found somewhere in the vin # or elsewhere. this is a simple question for you guys and i thank you in advance for the help.

Do you have a sticker in the doorjamb?
That will normally give you the month & year of production.

IF that doesn't do the trick, get the MB dealer's parts dept. to look up the car on the Vehicle Master Inquiry system. It's there. Some parts depts. may be un-cooerative.

IF still stumped, the MB historical archives in Stuttgart will have the build sheet for the car. They want a copy of the title proving you own the car, and a letter requestinjg the information sent to you in English. It works but figure a month

I tried that link and some of the information that was returned was not correct. (I have the factory archives information and VMI for my vehicle)
