As you already know, earning a Team Leader/Shop Foreman title isn't easy. For obvious reasons, it's extremely rare for an MB dealership to hire someone new for those positions. However, if you can answer "YES" to questions 2-5, then question #1 doesn't really matter. All you need to do is find a dealership in need of a good decision-maker (that's the toughest part of the job), located in a town or city that's agreeable with your life-style. Good luck in your search.
1- Master
2- Yes (221), we aren't Maybach, Yes (SLR)- have 2 here I look after
3- Yes- both the regional and national
4- Yes- every month, followed by followup training/meetings with the techs
5-Yes

The one thing you missed is...do you get paid for any of this? That answer is NO!! Which used to be ok when we had work and I could still make hours, but when you have to fight to make 40 in may and june, something is really wrong!!
Thats the one reason I made the decision to start my hunt in reverse kind of, look for the right situation first, then decide on the city. Using the dealer directory approach, I could likely get hired as a tech anywhere, but it's not about finding a job, it's about finding the right one!! My wife works in the financial industry, so they have offices everywhere there is a benz dealer, and that gives us an advantage over a lot of people when relocating.
Thanks for all your input.

Wow, dude, with those qualifications, I don't think you'll have a problem getting a job at any dealer.

In my case, I do get paid for these responibilities. You need to find a dealer that pays salary/bonus, instead of flat-rate. Many dealers in the Northeast compensate their foremen this way. Forget about turning wrenches. The best paid foremen make most of the diagnostic decisions to help the less experienced technicians remain productive. This is why it's absolutely crucial to stay on top of everything (conference calls, training, etc....). Of course there are days when you think your head might explode from all the questions you'll have to answer, but that's the challenge! There aren't a whole lot of people that can do the job, and dealers know it. Look into it.
