A/C filling capacity
 

Hi All:

Could anyone help me out with what the A/C freon and oil filling capacity is on a 1983 380SEC (So I know how much to buy). Low and High side pressures would also be welcome.

Are the A/C hoses usually barrier type in these cars?

For the capacity of R12, look at tthe sticker. Compute appropriately for other refridgerant types.

The original hoses on that car are not barrier type. If you're charging with HFC134a, it's not an issue unless the hoses are new (in which case they probably are barrier type).

I don't have a chart for that car, but note that there is not one specified pressure for each side.

Unfortunately my sticker is missing (well - not readable)...
A chart would be great (if anyone has one).

What do you all think of Autofrost as a replacement? Would it cause problems with my hoses?

(freon is just too expensive , although I am 609 certified).

Wouldn't you have to convert to 134a first?

Way oo costly to convert. All hoses, compressor (or at least seals); looking at $1000+; I'd rather just fill it up with R12.

Use R12 - its not that expensive - visit http://store.lenzdist.com/ and call them to see what their price is.

EDIT: According to ALLdata the 1983 380SEC takes 2.866 lbs (45.85 oz or 1300 grams) of R12

Does it say how much oil is needed in the compressor?
