AfterMarket AC Parts?

Hey Guys:
Just had a quick question for you all.
I have a 86 190E with bad AC. I know the compressor is bad, and maybe something else too. It was a few months back when I had my Benz mechanic look at it, and he quoted me about $1200 to fix. I love having him work on all my benz', but sometimes I just cannot see a reason to pay for genuine Benz parts, especially for that (our oldest) Benz. does anyone know of any good places to get aftermarket Benz replacement parts? or should it be safe to take it to a shop that only does AC? and see if they can fix it for much less?

any advice would be appreciated. The only other part I am considering going aftermarket on is the Cat Coverter, which is really starting to rattle now. I see the prices on the Benz part are super high, but I can get an aftermarket one for around 400.

thanks guys

There is NO reason to pay Mercedes prices for A/C compressor. They used standard type compressors. Just looking at the year of your car, you either have the compact Harrison or the japanese types. If you are going to KEEP the car, do yourself a big favor and buy a NEW compressor. I have been in automotive repair 35 years and I have rarely had equal service life from a rebuilt ANYTHING to buying new. MY $.02 worth
