190e 2.3 transmission question

I'm looking at a '93 Mercedes 190e 2.3 automatic, 170kmi fully documented service history, and it has an issue with the transmission.
It runs and drives fine, but as soon as you take off in Drive, it will immediately shift from 2nd to 3rd then even quicker to 4th...in other words- as soon as you take off it goes through all the gears within a matter of seconds, leaving no time to gain any speed.
BUT- if you "shift" the car with the gear selector, it drives fine.

One problem that may be associated with this is- the kickdown switch doesn't work.

Does anyone know what could be wrong?
Thanks!

Sounds like the bowden cable/transmission pressure cable could be too loose, if your car has one.

hm I'll check that.

anyone else have an idea?

Nope the Bowden is what controls that when adusted properly. I turned mine too far due to it holding gears way to long and not shifting when letting off the gas due to the PO being an ass and had the exact same problem. Yours could be broke or mis-adjusted or disconnected.

Bowden is bottom cable on the auto tranny. Also check to make sure the vacuum line is connected between the tranny vacuum modulator, driver side middle of tranny, to the intake manifold, between runner 3 and 4 by the IACV connector.

I Had The Same Problem, My Cable Was To Tight.

Another vote for the bowden cable.
